A strip from The Victor

See The Victor 147 - 151.

Writer:- The Victor editorial team. Artist:- Not known.

Main cast:- Sam Finch.

Time period:- American Wild West.

Stockwhip is the story of an Australian, Sam Finch, who becomes sheriff in an American Wild West town and keeps law and order not by using a gun, but a stockwhip. Reading this series reminded me of a British / Australian TV series that was filmed in Australia in 1959 / 60, starring Peter Graves of the TV Mission Impossible series. (One of my top ten TV series of all time).

Stockwhip was printed in late 1963 in The Victor, two or three years after the Whiplash TV series was broadcast. Did Whiplash inspire the creation of this series? Again this is another question which probably won’t be answered, as the answer will have been lost in time. I don’t suppose at the time the Victor was being produced keeping information about series and writers wasn’t high on the priority list. I mean who was going to be interested in the comic in future decades?

This short series only consisted of five episodes, but that doesn’t mean to say that other episodes don’t exist in picture or text format in other D.C. Thomson comics.

The following adventures of Sam Finch are from issues 149; 150 & 151.
