Writer:- The Hornet editorial team. Artist:- Josep Marti.
Main cast:- Manny Kritch; Ted Benson, chief coach.
Time period:- World Cup, Mexico 1970.
The tiny African nation of Marinesia is playing in the World Cup in Mexico, coached by a young Ted Benson. The team qualified for the World Cup, mainly due to their incredible goalkeeper Manny Kritch, who has never conceded a goal in a match. This series tells of Benson, Kritch's and the Marinesia team's progress through their matches.
In one episode a famous striker of West Bulaway, Victori Mullard thinks he's found a way to score a goal against Manny. But is he telling the truth and if so how is he going to do it? In another, Marinesia plays Verilaguay a country from S. America in the Q/F's. The Verilaguayan player who scores a goal against Kritch, will earn a bonus of $75,000. If they fail to knock in a goal against him, the money will be given to a local church football team. The Verilaguayan players eager to win the bonus don't care what tactics they employ to get that goal either! And what part does Manny's Uncle Joachim, a witch-doctor have to play in this episode and the series? Read the stories below to find out.
Manny Kritch, who Benson found in the forests of Marinesia, has no special powers or abilities to help him in preventing strikers from scoring goals. He just very agile and has the knack of always being in the right place at the right time. In one episode we learn that he does put great emphasis on relying more on his eyes and head, as opposed to watching his opponents feet.
Does Marinesia win the World Cup, does Kritch concede any goals? I've no idea as I am missing several issues, including the last part of this story. But when I find out I'll post the final episode.
The following adventures of Manny Kritch are from issues 355, 357 and 358.
