A strip from The Hornet
See The Hornet issues 465, 466; 491, 499, 512, 516 - 525 & 622.
Writer:- The Hornet editorial team. Artists:- Felix Carrion? & for issue 622 - P?.
Main cast:- Private Will Rodgers; Sergeant-Major Slater.
Time period:- World War One.
I should explain straight away that the term 'Todger' during the First World War was a nickname given to a British soldier who avoided promotion. I thought it best to allay everyone's concerns straight away on this matter.
This World War One series tells how Rodgers, who is more than capable of commanding troops in the field, ducks and avoids any promotion which he is offered every week for his own reasons. Much to the disgust of Sergeant-Major Slater, who doesn't understand Rodgers reasons.
This series's publishing schedule was errantic to say the least. The fifteen stories making up this series are published over a period of sixty issues. In D.C. Thomson 'language' this suggests that the series was published in another comic and was being used in the Horent as a filler story when required. This erratic publishing theme was becoming more and more prevalent in the later years of the Hornet comic. With various other series's suffering a similiar fate. I have no knowledge as to why this situation occurred.
Artwork for this series is I'm fairly sure by Felix Carrion, but I've put a question mark after his name in the credits, in case it isn't his work.
The following adventures of Private Will Rodgers are from issues 465; 466; 523; 525 & 622.
