A strip from The Victor. Page updated February 2012.
See The Victor issues -
1284 - 1299 (first series; Cochrane's adventures as a Midshipman).
1456 - 1472 (second series; Cochrane's adventures during the Napoleonic War).
Writer:- The Victor editorial team. Artist:- Enrique Alcantena.
Main cast:- Lord Thomas Cochrane; Midshipman Chitty; Lieutenant Jack Larmer; Boatswain Slack.
Time period:-
Below are two examples of finely drawn panels by Alcantena who seems equally happy drawing country or town scenes. The image on the left is from issue 1464 and on the right from issue 1468. The Argentinian's artwork really brings this strip to life.
My thanks to Chris Barnett for identifying and supplying me with the information about Alcantena.
The following adventures of Lord Tom Cochrane are from issues 1456, 1458, 1459, 1464, 1465, 1471 & 1472. Finally, there is a 1809 factual account of Admiral Lord Cochrane's efforts in using three fire vessels to break a French boom and destorying the French ships in harbour. From The Wizard (2nd series), 14th April, 1973, artist not known.
