Story Notes
This story was triggered when I was leafing through the 2015 Lego / DK Awesome Ideas book and saw the ‘real life’ builds section. Examples of
‘real size’ builds of bunsen burners and false teeth set me off on a train of thought story for the The Grey Shadow. I built one side of Grace’s
lab in ‘real life’ size, which was great fun. I already had the spider, ants and giant 'mosquito,' but I needed a cat. This I built using the
instructions from the Lego Creator cat build. Apart from the ‘broken glass’ (which was enlarged) everything else in Grace’s room was made 'real size'. Obviously,
things are not accurate as regards scale. But in this comic series, it's not all that important. This is a ‘bottle story’ that is, it takes part in one location within the confines of the police station. Having Grace out and about in the
‘real world’ outside of her office, would have been too much of a challenge and time consuming in creating large versions of vehicles, architecture and
so on. I find I'm starting to produce the Grey Shadow stories in the style of an American comic. For example, the front cover providing an exciting
teaser to entice the reader into 'turning the page'. The Guard stories in comparison are more British comic in style. Green Lion Comics, story and characters © Adrian Banfield, 2016.
